You no longer have to look to New York City or its surrounding suburbs to bring the arts into the lives of your family. The Janice Center is a new 2,800 square foot facility in Jeffersonville devoted to learning music, dance, art, theater, yoga and more. It is the only one of its kind in the Hudson Valley Region. Whether it's musical instrument instruction in piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, violin and viola, beginner drums; Music Together® programs for introducing music to children 0-5; dance classes in ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap, or ballroom; art, theater, karate, Zumba or summer camps, The Janice Center will be the home for anyone who has an interest in learning any of the arts.

With more than 20 years in music and art education, we have selected the very best instructors to conduct the various programs. Our facility is specially designed to teach the arts with separate rooms for individual instruction and two main ballrooms for large class programs as well as recitals, seminars and workshops. There is even a waiting room with television so parents can wait comfortably for their kids.

We've tried to think of everything that will maximize the experience of learning the fine arts. But we're always open to ideas and suggestions. So please contact us to share your thoughts.

02/02/10 Kid Creations

There is no end to what your children can create from everyday objects. In less than one hour, with guidance from our expert craftswoman, Linda Steiger, they will see jewelry, wall hangings, ornaments, silhouettes, mosaics, wreathes, tissue molds and much more come to life. Incredible fun and creativity.

Classes are held every Saturday morning in February from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Parental interaction is recommended and encouraged. Working with your kids to create keepsakes they may hold on to for a lifetime is a rewarding and memorable experience.

02/02/10 Hot to Trot

A new ballroom dance session focusing on the Fox Trot will begin Friday, February 5 at The Janice Center. The Foxtrot is a smooth progressive dance characterized by long, continuous flowing movements across the dance floor.

The 5-week class will be taught by Norton and Agi Hyman and run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Fridays. The cost is $150 per couple. Singles are welcome.

12/30/09 Winter 2010 Ballet

Children\'s Ballet -- This class serves as an introduction to the art of dance. Exercises are aimed at building a foundation as well as instilling a passion. Creative activities are combined with basic fundamentals of movement. Year-end recital scheduled at special location. . Taught by Melissa Moreno. 14-week session starts January 6. Class Schedule; Wednesdays, 4:30-5:15 p.m.

Teen/Adult Ballet -- Class consist of a combination of warm-up, conditioning, and short combination exercises. Students are exposed a variety of movement, including stretches, body isolations, traditional jazz steps, and stylistic nuances. Lyrical dance will also be included this semester. Year-end recital scheduled at special location. Taught by Melissa Moreno. 14-week session starts January 6. Class Schedule: Wednesdays, 5:30-7 p.m.

12/30/09 Karate Every Tuesday

Self-defense, discipline, respect, confidence. Authentic karate taught through Joe Poppo\\'s Moo Duk Kwan Academy. Classes are held every Tuesday from 5:30-6:15 p.m. A free 15-minute trial classes will be offered every week at 5:10 p.m for interested students. 12/30/09 Pilates on Friday and Saturday

The Pilates Mat classes held every Friday (10:30-11:30 a.m.) and Saturday (8:45-9:45 a.m.) morning are designed to stretch and strengthen all muscle groups while focusing on the core muscles otherwise known as the Powerhouse. The Mat classes require the body to use its own resistance however we will also be utilizing dyna-bands and balls to help focus on the core muscles. These exercises work on attaining a higher body awareness while improving balance, coordination, breathing, circulation, better posture and an overall sense of well being. 12/01/09 Winter 2010 Hip Hop

Learn and perfect the harlem shake, heel toe, c-walk, moonwalk, glide, and popping – all the moves and techniques for hip hop and breaking. A fun, energetic dance and workout taught by Melissa Moreno. One-hour class runs for 12 weeks concluding with Spring Recital. 10/05/09 Get Ready to Zumba

The latest fitness craze sweeping the country is coming to The Janice Center. Zumba classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursday from 7-8 p.m. and Friday mornings from 9-10 a.m.

Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and aerobic movements to create a dynamic workout program that burns a bunch of calories. The goal of Zumba is simple: to work out, love working out and to get hooked. Zumba fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life.

Classes will be taught by certified Zumba instructor Meaghan Mullally-Gorr. The cost is $70 monthly; $100 for a 10-week session or $12 by the class. 10-week Winter 2010 session begins the week of January 4 with classes on Tuesday (10:30 a.m.), Wednesday (10:30 a.m.) Thursday (5:30 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.).
