Tanya Cohen
Director of The Janice Center; piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, Hip Hop and Zumba instructor

The owner and operator of The Music Studio in Jeffersonville for the past 15 years. Tanya began taking piccolo lessons at nine years old and then followed with flute, clarinet saxophone and piano. She began performing at 10 years old in numerous groups including The Callicoon Center Band, Livingston Manor Band, Sullivan Symphonic Band, Orange County Orchestra and Northeast Music Festival and continued through her high school years.

She obtained her degree in music performance at Kutztown University where she performed in musical groups as well as solos. She also studied and performed overseas in Italy.

In 1994, Tanya opened The Music Studio. She is a member of NYSSMA and Piano Guild. She is also active in theater with credits in The Lamb, Glass Menagerie, A Shayna Maidel and Fiddler on the Roof. Tanya is also the only licensed Music Together instructor in Sullivan County.

The Janice Center fulfills a lifelong dream of Tanya's as well as her late mother Janice for whom the Center is named.

Dan Parisi
Guitar Instructor

At age 18, Dan formed an original four piece melodic punk rock band called Next II Nothing in which he played guitar and was a vocalist. The band was signed to a Canadian record label about a year later and did some touring in the United States and Canada.

With Next II Nothing on hiatus, Dan is currently part of another band called Good N Loaded in which he plays bass and sings. Good and Loaded plays a wide variety of music ranging from popular hits of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and today at venues in the tri-state area.

Dan attended Orange County Community College where he earned an Associates Degree. He then graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 2002 earning a Bachelor's degree in secondary education (social studies) and earned his Master's degrees from the New York Institute of Technology. He is currently a Social Studies teacher in the Sullivan West school district. He has been teaching guitar for the past five years.

Meaghan Mullally-Gorr
Zumba Instructor

Meaghan graduated from SUNY Binghamton in 2004 with a BA in English. While attending Binghamton, she spent two years studying theatre. For the past five years, Meaghan has participated as co-director, assistant director, and choreographer in local high school and community theatre. Meaghan is now studying to become an ACE Certified Group Fitness instructor and completed her Zumba Certification in October 2009.

Ballroom Dance Instructors

Coming from a dance oriented family, Norton began his dancing career at the age of 12. His two aunts and an uncle were in the Danish Ballet, and Norton began his training in his uncle's ballet studio.

Ballroom dancing became his preference, and after winning a championship in the Harvest Moon, he entered the professional world of show business with his partner to form the team of "Norton and Patricia."

They toured throughout America and Canada, playing at night clubs, hotels, theaters and TV shows. Some of their credits include the Latin Quarter, the Copacabana and The Palace Theater in New York; the Eden Roc and the Fountainbleau hotels in Miami Beach; the Queen Elizabeth hotel in Montreal; and the Riviera and Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. There were two appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show.

After leaving show business in 1970, he began a new career, teaching mathematics in a local high school. When he retired, he combined both careers by opening a dance studio, where he currently teaches, along with his wife, Agi.

Norton and Agi also spend several weeks each year teaching ballroom dancing aboard cruise ships.

Stephen Faubel
Voice and piano

Stephen began his musical career at the age of 10 as a chorister with the St. Thomas Choir of Men and Boys in New York City, where he shared the stage with opera singer Jesse Norman and the Concert Royal Orchestra. While attending Wallenpaupack Area High School, Stephen sang in All-State and All-Eastern Choruses while studying voice with Norman Campbell, Alice Welker, and Dr. Malloy of The Eastman School of Music. Along with his singing pursuits, Mr. Faubel studied piano for four years.

At Penn State's School of Music, Mr. Faubel studied Vocal Performance and sang with PSU's Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Essence of Joy as well as the PA Chamber Chorale.

Currently, Stephen is on the faculty at the Black Bear Conservatory of Music. He is an active performer in the local community, serving as pianist/music director at Bethany Presbyterian Church, and pianist for the 2009 season musical at the Ritz Company Playhouse Mr. Faubel also performs regularly at many local establishments in the region and volunteers as a DJ for WJFF. In addition, he has performed twice at Carnegie Hall as a member of The New York Choral Society

Amanda Mita
Violin/Viola and Drums Instructor

Amanda is a 2003 graduate of the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam with a degree in music. In 2004, she earned her master's degree in childhood education from SUNY Potsdam. Amanda has been teaching instrumental music at Twin Towers Middle School in Middletown for the past four years where she is also the director of an after-school recording studio and the school's drama club. As a violist, she performs with local orchestras and chamber groups. Amanda is also active with the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop, working as the musical director or violinist/violist for various productions.

Anthony Dos Santos
Karate Instructor

Anthony is the manager of the Moo Duk Kwan Academy satellite program at the Janice Center. He was recently promoted to First Gup (last rank before testing for black belt) and is preparing to enter the Jo Kyo (certified assistant instructor) training program. He is a member in good standing of the US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation. Currently the School Resource Officer for the Liberty Central School District, he is also a certified DARE officer and NYS Division of Criminal Justice General Topics Instructor.

Joe Poppo
Karate Instructor

Joe Poppo is the owner and founder of the Moo Duk Kwan Academy Martial Arts Studio. He is a Master Instructor with a 5th Degree Black Belt, certified by the Korean Soo Bahk Do Association and US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan (USSBDMDK) Federation. At the age of 22, he was the youngest certified instructor in the USSBDMDK Federation. He is a two-time National Champion and has won multiple regional Grand Championships. His Moo Duk Kwan Academy has hosted the Empire State Championships for the past 15 years. He been a member of our Law Enforcement community for the past 10 years and is a certified DARE officer.


Shannon Kane
Shannon Kane
Ballet Instructor

Shannon is a longtime Jeffersonville resident who, throughout the 1990s, helped run a dance studio with her mother, Jane Lawski. She also spent 15 years in Waverly, Tennessee choreographing routines for the Jr.-Sr. Pro Cheerleading Squad throughout the 1990s. She started dancing at age 4 in her mother's Inwood, Long Island dance studio.

Art/Crafts Instructor

Artist, designer, and craftswoman offering expertise in many media, such as: metal, textile, floral, paper, and clay. Linda is a self-taught weaver in the tradition of the Nez Perces Indians and has instructed students in this technique at Orange County Community College.
