Tanya Cohen

Director of The Janice Center; piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, ballet, hip hop, Music Together and Pre-School instructor

The owner and operator of The Music Studio in Jeffersonville from 1994-2008. Tanya began taking piccolo lessons at nine years old and then followed with flute, clarinet saxophone and piano. She began performing at 10 years old in numerous groups including The Callicoon Center Band, Livingston Manor Band, Sullivan Symphonic Band, Orange County Orchestra and Northeast Music Festival and continued through her high school years.

She obtained her degree in music performance at Kutztown University where she performed in musical groups as well as solos. She also studied and performed overseas in Italy.

In 1994, Tanya opened The Music Studio. She is a member of NYSSMA and Piano Guild. She is also active in theater with credits in The Lamb, Glass Menagerie, A Shayna Maidel and Fiddler on the Roof. Tanya is also the only licensed Music Together instructor in Sullivan County. She took over the Hip Hop program at The Janice Center in 2010 and within a year grew the participation level from 12 to 30. She has taken Hip Hop workshops in NYC and tirelessly researches and choreographs new moves and routines.

The Janice Center fulfills a lifelong dream of Tanya's as well as her late mother Janice for whom the Center is named.

Jeff Yeung

Guitar Instructor

Jeff Yeung is a Sullivan West graduate from Jeffersonville, NY. He started studying music at the Janice Center where he studied piano, saxophone, and guitar. He then studied piano under Dom Daurio before attending The Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase, where he studied under Professor Stephanie Brown. After graduating from SUNY Purchase, Jeff returned to the music community that supported his musical development.

He’s played for Sullivan West High School’s choir and their NYSSMA soloists as a piano accompanist. He’s performed in the pit for Sullivan West’s musical productions. He has performed alongside local organizations including Nesin Cultural Arts, Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop, and Delaware Valley Opera. He also enjoys writing music and following news about consumer technology. He is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Music Education at Manhattanville College and plays for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Narrowsburg and Liberty FPC.

Danielle Strassman

Piano Instructor

Danielle Strassman, a 2011 Liberty High School graduate, has been with The Janice Center since 2017 as a piano instructor. Strassman has been playing the piano since age five and studied classical piano with Dr. Alex Peh at SUNY New Paltz. There she began tutoring beginner piano classes. She graduated from New Paltz with a BS in piano performance in 2015. Since graduation, Strassman traveled to Greece and performed at Anatolia College and has taught piano courses for children through the Arts Lab at SUNY New Paltz. Currently she performs at the Monticello Methodist Church and at the Dead End Cafe.
